My mom passed away November 17, 2010 due to lung cancer and various complications. She was diagnosed in June of that year, and went through one round of chemo and two rounds of radiation. She tried her hardest and put up an admirable fight, but unfortunately it was a losing battle.
Although I knew what the outcome was most likely to be when she was diagnosed, I still never expected it to happen so it’s been quite difficult to accept. I write about my grief to help me deal with it, and also in the hopes that maybe I’ll be able to help someone out there who is going through a similar loss. The thing that has helped me the most in my grief process is talking to other people who have lost a parent because it makes me feel much less alone and much more normal.
Everyone says their mom is the best, but my mom truly was. I’ve always looked up to her, but do so now more than ever. I hope to be even half the woman and mother she was.
